A K-12 school district is in many ways quite similar to a university. Both have a central oversight and governing body but are formed by an amalgamation of distributed entities. The only difference between the two is that a school district is more distributed and each entity more autonomous. From a business and information technology perspective, the same approach and systems that can be effectively implemented and which results in better customer service, streamlined business processes and overall cost-savings for colleges and universities, can also be implemented by K-12 school districts.
